Police Station for the 24th and 25th Districts, East Division Detective’s Bureau, East Division Inspector, 25 Cell Cellblock, Detention Facilities and two Preliminary Hearing Courtrooms were the main program elements.
The existing Police Station for the 24th and 25th Districts, built in the early 1960s has become outdated and overcrowded. This new station will provide the needed space and function for the Police Department. An extensive pre-design phase including interviews with all building users was conducted. The spatial needs including storage, security, and prisoner processing were carefully defined and incorporated into the building. Computer, security, and multi-media technology are incorporated into the building. The design team worked with both the City and the Police Department to fully co-ordinate this technology. The building is designed to appear at home in the brick row home neighborhoods which surround it. The tradition of marking important public buildings with entry portals was used to provide a dignified image for the building while projecting a positive image for the Police in this area of the City.
